Singapore Chinese Dance Theatre (formerly known as Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan Dance Theatre) began as an avocational troupe offering dance courses and performance opportunities for enthusiasts since December 1989. Under the leadership of its founding and current Artistic Director Madam Lim Moi Kim, as well as the support from the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan and the National Arts Council, the Dance Theatre was officiated as a professional Chinese dance company in 2014. The Dance Theatre then registered itself as Charity under the Charities Act in 2014 and gotten its IPC status in 2015.

Over the years, the Singapore Chinese Dance Theatre has performed locally, regionally and in the international arena. Their biennial dance performance featuring many original works is well attended and often received positive reviews. The Troupe has also performed dance festivals in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. Many of its choreographed works by its young choreographers had also received commendations and awards.

The Dance Theatre mantra has always been keeping heritage, strengthen traditions and synergize new elements. This has served to maintain the professional standards of the Troupe and helped it achieve artistic excellence.
